*QUICK RELEASE COLLAR -Required for all dogs that stay at Bark Station. Purchase one for $10 at our front desk or bring your own. Please also make sure your dog has a metal id tag with name on it.
*Kennel cough is a highly contagious airborne infection similar to the common cold that kids can pick up while at human day care. Many kennel facilities choose not to talk about this topic, but we feel you should know about the '"common doggy cold". Dogs can pick up Kennel Cough very easily at dog parks, the routine vet visit, vet boarding facilities, greeting other dogs while on a quick walk, walking behind another dog that carries the cough without symptoms etc. Dogs can still get kennel cough if vaccinated. The good news is if your dog is vaccinated, in most cases, dogs just have a small cold & cough then it goes away on its own.
No vaccine is 100% effective as new strains of Kennel Cough continually develop and some dogs can be more susceptible to the infection than others. Bark Station maintains HIGH industry standards in keeping our facility healthy & clean. Bark Station takes all possible precautions to eliminate the possible spread of this infection in our facility. We strictly monitor and maintain proper ventilation at all times and follow a rigorous cleaning schedule. Our cleaning products are top of the line & are effective in killing all disease but at the same time are earth & doggy friendly (same products used by vet clinics to disinfect surgical rooms). Your dog will never be exposed to another actively sick dog at Bark Station. Dogs that appear to be ill will be quarantined & picked up immediately by emergency contacts. The tough part about kennel cough is many dogs can be carriers & it is never known even to a vet.
We HIGHLY recommend owners request the 6 month vaccination vs. the 1 year vaccination. We will still accept the 1 year, but have found the 6 month to be more effective in all our years experience working in shelters & rescue care. The vaccine can take up to 3-10 days to become fully effective. There is also some current debate about how long the various vaccines will protect your dog. Ask your veterinarian for more information and make sure they know when your dog will be staying with us.
